"I've been in the gaming industry for nearly two decades, and I didn't have a mentor when I was starting out. I became a mentor because I want others to have the support I didn't."

Claire Adamou has spent nearly two decades in the gaming industry. As Vice President at Saroca, a transformational leadership company specializing in gaming, high-tech, and SaaS industries, and Head of Operations at American iGaming Solutions, she's built expertise across multiple aspects of the business - from marketing and product strategy to bridging the gap between investors and emerging technologies.

But when she was starting out, she didn't have the one thing that could have made her journey easier: a mentor.

"I've been in the gaming industry for nearly two decades, and I didn't have a mentor when I was starting out," Claire reflects. "I became a mentor because I want others to have the support I didn't. Having someone who understands your challenges, who has walked a similar path, can make such a difference in building the career you want. That's what inspires me - helping others feel seen, supported, and encouraged."

Creating Safe Spaces

Through the Global Gaming Women mentorship program, Claire has been able to provide that support to others. One moment stands out as particularly meaningful. "One of the most impactful moments for me was when my mentee shared that I had inspired her in more ways than she could put into words - and that she felt she could always come to me as a safe space."

That connection didn't end when the program did. A year later, they're still in touch, and that ongoing relationship means a lot to Claire. It demonstrates what mentorship can become: not a temporary arrangement, but a lasting professional relationship built on trust and mutual respect.

The Two-Way Exchange

Claire has learned that mentorship isn't one-directional. "Being a mentor is incredibly rewarding. It's not just about giving support - it's also about growing alongside someone."

The experience has given her new perspectives, sharpened her communication and coaching skills, and reminded her how powerful vulnerability and connection can be. "My mentees often inspire me in ways they probably don't even realise," she says.

She's gained as much as she's given. The relationship has strengthened her own leadership abilities while building meaningful connections with other women in the industry. "I'm proud to be part of the GGW mentorship program because I know the ripple effect it can have on both sides of the relationship."

Why It Matters in Gaming

For Claire, mentorship holds particular importance in the gaming industry. "Mentorship is so important for career growth and confidence. It provides a neutral, non-judgmental space to ask questions, get advice, and learn from someone who's been there. It's about real connection, encouragement, and having someone in your corner."

In an industry that moves fast and can sometimes feel isolating, that support becomes even more valuable: "Мentorship offers a powerful reminder that you're not alone on the journey."

Encouragement for Future Mentors

Claire's advice to anyone considering becoming a mentor for the first time is to "Do it! You never know the impact your experience, perspective, and support can have on someone else. We each bring something unique to the table, and mentorship is a chance to pay it forward."

She sees mentorship as more than simply giving back. It's also a practical way to grow your own network and build meaningful, reciprocal relationships with like-minded women in the industry.

Resources for Growth

When asked about resources she recommends to women in gaming, Claire points to several options depending on learning style and goals. She recommends the GGW podcast and Saroca's podcast, which explores leadership topics relevant to the industry. She also finds value in listening to women entrepreneurs outside of gaming for fresh perspectives.

For reading, she loves The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks. "It's all about identifying your zone of genius and learning to operate from that place for optimal performance and fulfilment."

The Long View

Claire's experience demonstrates how mentorship creates lasting impact. By providing the support she wished she'd had early in her career, she's contributing to a more connected, supportive gaming industry.

The relationships continue beyond formal program timelines. The insights flow in both directions. And the reminder that you're not alone on the journey makes all the difference, especially in an industry that can move too fast to always feel supported.

For Claire, mentorship has become an essential part of how she leads and grows - both personally and professionally.
